Using retrograde tracing we show that glutamatergic feedback connections to the olfactory bulb develop mainly postnatally in an area-specific manner. While projections from anterior brain regions such as the anterior olfactory nucleus, anterior piriform cortex, and nucleus of the lateral olfactory tract are present shortly after birth, feedback projections from brain areas such as LEC, cortical amygdala, and ventral hippocampus start to emerge only at the beginning of the second postnatal week.
